A D&D 4.0 setting

Kingdoms of Kalamar

We’ve released the Kingdoms of Kalamar fantasy campaign setting as a 501-page PDF, referencing 4E D&D classes, races, monsters, and more. It also includes expanded background details, over 50 new 4E game mechanics, and an incredibly detailed full-color atlas!

Looks pretty cool. I wonder if Wizards of the Coast is all steamed about it not following the GSL.

  1. I guess they are trying to take advantage of the couple of months before the release of the new Forgotten Realms sourcebook. Good on them.

Personally, I kind of like the idea of a world with no name – the world of darkness default setting that is suggested by the core books reminds me of a post-apocalyptic fantasy. Civilization has broken down so much that there isn’t much of a world-wide identity anymore. Just outposts and city-states fighting against the wild.

“Who runs Bartertown? Masterblaster runs Bartertown!”

  2. I guess it’s great if you want a giant book of maps and such, but I checked out the preview, and I can’t say that I was too impressed with the one piece of rules stuff I saw. I think it was a new racial power for half-hobgoblins. Something about getting to attack someone who refuses to surrender to you. I don’t remember exactly, but it seemed a bit…off.
